Japanese Antique Doll of Benkei, the hero of medieval history
Very rare Japanese
doll made in Kyoto about 1930's represents the hero
of Japanese history warrior monk Benkei
(1155–1189). He was a man of a great strength and loyalty
and he served Minamoto no Yositsune.
He was a yamabushi a member of a sect of mountain
monks who were recognizable by their black caps. Benkei
has long wooden stick in his left hand and katana sword.
He weared in silk brocaded hakama pants, plaid kimono and
black silk jacket kariginy. Benkei has wooden lacquered
backpack with Buddhist manuscripts on his back.
Dimensions: 30 cm / 11,8 inches high
Condition: excellent, without any damage.
